In 2020, CCA NC filed a lawsuit on behalf of the people of North Carolina to hold the State accountable for their dismal record as the fiduciary of our public trust resources. The NC Court of Appeals affirmed that role stating in their September 6, 2022, ruling:

” “[A]s Plaintiffs allege, protecting fisheries falls within the purview of the public trust doctrine, and ‘the State can no more abdicate this duty than it can abdicate its police powers in the administration of government and the preservation of the peace.’” (Emphasis added).

The lawsuit will continue to the trial stage this year where the people of North Carolina will have their day in court. In the meantime, CCA NC continues to be the leading advocate for our fisheries resources here in NC. We have committed to informing and educating the public on the issues facing our fisheries through our new “Save Our Fisheries” Campaign: https://ccanc.org/save-our-fisheries/

CCA NC will continue to make sure the fishing public is well represented at both the legislative and regulatory levels of state politics.

Getting involved with CCA NC means opportunities to advocate for conservation of our coastal fisheries, restore degraded habitat, fund scholarships for college students in marine fisheries studies, host kids’ fishing tournaments, and host fishing weekends for our military veterans and active-duty military personnel. We have witnessed some incredible efforts by our members this year as they have given tirelessly in support of coastal conservation in their communities!

We hope that you will join us for a night of fellowship and conservation!!!
